Cross stitch is a beautiful and simple art that is easy to learn. However, from learning to embroidering is very handy,You have to embroider more works. At the beginning, Everyone has to integrate the tutorial into their own methods,According to their own habits in order to find the best method for them. So don’t worry, take your time
- The embroidered cloth used in cross stitch is cotton, linen, or plastic cloth with regular small squares. Its specification is expressed by "CT"-how many small grids are in each inch, the commonly used specification is 14CT which there are 14 small grids in each inch. The specifications we see on the market include: 9CT, 11CT, 16CT, 14CT, 18CT, 22CT, 28CT, 32CT, etc.
- Calculation of embroidery cloth size: As a novice, you always feel sad about how much cloth to cut at the beginning. Please don’t worry. Generally speaking, the actual number of squares of the work will be told on the embroidery. As long as you know this, and the CT number of the cloth you want to use, use The following method can easily calculate the size of the embroidery cloth needed !!
Cross-stitch embroidery cloth calculation table (1 inch = 2.6cm):
9CT |
1CT=0.289cm |
11CT |
1CT=0.227cm |
14CT |
1CT=0.179cm |
16CT |
1CT=0.156cm |
18CT |
1CT=0.139cm |
Formula: Number of grids/CT number X2.54+Leave distance (cm)X2 =Fabric size (cm)
Example: 142 grids X 159 grids, embroidered with 14CT cloth, how much cloth do we need?
Substitute into the formula: 142 / 14 * 2.54 + 5*2 = 35.76(cm) 159 / 14 * 2.54 + 5*2 = 38.85(cm) Need to embroider cloth: 35.85 cm
- Embroidery thread: All the threads of cross stitch are mainly cotton thread. In addition, there are linen thread, metal thread, special thread, color wool thread and so on. Cotton thread is subdivided into hundreds of colors according to different color systems, and it is their richness that makes our works come alive. The other threads are used for the finishing of special works, and the amount is not too large. Embroidery thread is usually "branch" as the unit, and each color is identified by a set of Arabic numerals. Each embroidery thread is composed of 6 strands of single thread, and the length is 8 meters, which means that each embroidery thread is 6 strands * 8 meters = 48 meters .
- Cutting length :What is the length of each cutting thread? If you cut too short, it will increase the chance of embedding the thread, which is troublesome and costly. If you cut too long, the thread will get knotted during the embroidery process, and the thread will be pulled back and forth, and the thread will change in the end. If it is thinner, it will not be full after embroidering, and it is easy to fluff and break easily. Generally speaking, the cut length is about 100 cm,Then pull out one, fold it in half, and thread the needle again, so that each time you embroider with 50 cm thread.
- How to start :Novices are generally troubled if they are positioned in the center on the embroidered cloth. Should the thread marked on the picture be embroidered for a large piece of cloth?
- Method 1: Center positioning : Don’t worry, please take a closer look at the embroidered image in your hand. The four sides of the embroidered image will be marked with a "triangle" or "small arrow" symbol. This mark indicates The center point on the length and width of the work can be found according to the center mark. Then take your embroidered cloth (don't confuse the length and width) and find the center of the cloth by folding in half. Embroidering from the center point is an absolutely safe method.
- Method 2: Water-soluble pen positioning : Water-soluble pen is a weapon often used in cross stitch. It is drawn on the embroidery cloth and disappears without a trace as long as it encounters water. The water-soluble pen positioning method is also a method often used by embroiders. The method is: leave a marginal distance on the cloth, and draw the grids drawn with thick lines on the embroidery on the embroidery cloth with a water-soluble pen, so that you can start embroidering wherever you want to embroider the picture. Of course, if you just count the wrong squares at the beginning, there is no way!
- Generally speaking, for the perfect effect of the work, the outline is left at the last step to complete. If the work is embroidered with 2 strands of thread, the crochet line is usually 1 strand; if the work is made of 3 strands, the crochet will use 2 strands.
